AZ HB2293

Increases the size of the Law Enforcement Merit System Council from three to five members appointed by the governor.

Requires council members to be chosen based on experience in and sympathy with merit principles of public employment.

Maintains existing restrictions that council members cannot have held elective public office within one year before appointment and cannot hold any other political office while serving.

Preserves existing terms of six years for council members, with removal only for cause and no compensation except expense reimbursement.

Maintains the council chairman's position as an ex officio member of the state personnel board without voting privileges.
