HB2725 Summary

• Requires school districts and charter schools to adopt recess policies providing at least 30 minutes daily of structured physical activity for kindergarten through fifth grade students by January 1, 2011.

• Expands charter school sponsorship authority to include universities under the Arizona Board of Regents, community college districts, and groups of community college districts, in addition to existing sponsors.

• Establishes the Commission for Postsecondary Education to administer the mathematics, science and special education teacher student loan program, replacing the Arizona Board of Regents in this role.

• Creates an E-rate fund and statewide e-rate program administered by the government information technology agency to assist schools and libraries in applying for federal broadband and telecommunications funding.

• Makes various amendments to school financing provisions, charter school operations, teacher certification reciprocity, procurement rules, and budget calculation procedures for school districts.
