School districts may prescribe and enforce policies and procedures to address dating abuse incidents involving students at school, potentially based on a model dating abuse policy.

School districts in grades 7-12 may incorporate age-appropriate dating abuse information into their existing health curriculum, including definitions of dating abuse, recognition of warning signs, and characteristics of healthy relationships.

Parents or guardians of pupils under 18 years old may request and review dating abuse instructional materials from their school principal within a reasonable time after submitting a written request.

Each school district governing board must conduct a public meeting by June 30, 2011 to review and consider adoption of dating abuse curriculum and policies, with local domestic violence organizations notified at least two weeks in advance.

School districts that adopted a dating abuse policy before the effective date of this act are exempt from the public meeting requirement.
