AZ SCR1002

Repeals Article VI, sections 36 and 41 of the Arizona Constitution, eliminating the commissions on appellate court and trial court appointments.

Amends Article VI, section 37 to remove the merit commission nomination process and allow the governor to appoint any qualified person of the governor's choosing to fill judicial vacancies, subject to senate confirmation.

Requires all justices and judges appointed under this system to be reconfirmed by the senate every four years to continue serving.

Modifies Article VI, section 38 to maintain the judicial retention election process where voters can approve or reject sitting judges, contingent on senate reconfirmation every four years.

Submits the proposed constitutional amendment to Arizona voters at the next general election.
