HB 2606 Summary

• Amends Arizona Revised Statutes section 36-2907 to add nonexperimental transplants approved for title XIX (Medicaid) reimbursement as a covered health and medical service under the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS).

• Removes previous exclusions from coverage for pancreas-only transplants, pancreas after kidney transplants, lung transplants, hemopoietic cell allogenic unrelated transplants, heart transplants for non-ischemic cardiomyopathy, and liver transplants for hepatitis C diagnosis.

• Appropriates $602,950 from the state general fund (contingent on receiving matching private gifts, grants, or donations) plus $3,083,600 in federal expenditure authority for fiscal year 2010-2011 to fund transplant services under AHCCCS.

• Authorizes the AHCCCS administration to accept private gifts, grants, and donations for nonexperimental transplants.

• Declares the act an emergency measure effective immediately.
