HCM 2005 Summary

• Urges Congress to introduce and adopt the military service portions of the DREAM Act to allow qualified undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. before age 16 to serve in the armed forces.

• Requires eligible individuals to be high school graduates of impeccable character and integrity who enlist for a minimum of three years of military service.

• Provides a pathway to U.S. citizenship for those who honorably discharge from military service.

• Honors Private First Class Silvestre S. Herrera, an Arizona Medal of Honor recipient from World War II who was brought from Mexico as an infant, charged an enemy stronghold despite not being a citizen, and lost both legs in combat.

• Directs the Arizona Secretary of State to transmit copies of the memorial to the President of the U.S. Senate, Speaker of the House, and all Arizona members of Congress.
