HCR 2018 Summary

• Repeals existing Article XIX of the Arizona Constitution concerning the office of mine inspector.

• Establishes a new Article XIX that requires the Governor to appoint a state mine inspector with advice and consent of the Senate, with the inspector serving at the pleasure of the Governor.

• Directs the Legislature to enact laws specifying the qualifications and duties of the state mine inspector.

• Directs the Legislature to enact laws regulating mine operations, equipment, and worker health and safety in mines.

• Submits the proposed constitutional amendment to voters at the next general election.
