SB 1249 Summary

• Redefines "board recognized school" to require accreditation by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, or approval by state/equivalent regulatory boards for in-state and out-of-state schools.

• Increases minimum education requirement for massage therapy licensure from 500 to 700 hours of classroom and clinical supervised instruction.

• Reduces continuing education requirement for license renewal from 25 hours to 24 hours per two-year renewal period.

• Adds requirement that applicants attest in writing they can read, speak, and understand English and authorizes executive director to issue licenses subject to board approval at next regularly scheduled meeting.

• Eliminates the provisional license category and related grandfathering provisions that expired January 1, 2006; allows board members to receive $150 per day compensation for board service.
