SB 1459 Summary

• Requires all law enforcement agencies, universities, community college districts, cities, towns and counties to post crime statistics on their websites by category for crimes reported to the FBI, maintaining these statistics for at least five consecutive years.

• Mandates law enforcement agencies report additional data including the number of crimes cleared by category, cases referred for prosecution, and cases cleared by arrest.

• Requires law enforcement agencies to post their annual crime statistics by July 1 of the following calendar year.

• Requires each county attorney to report annually on their website the number of cases by category referred for prosecution by each law enforcement agency in their county, also posted by July 1 of the following year.

• Allows law enforcement agencies without their own websites to report statistics on the website of the appropriate governmental entity that has jurisdiction over them.
