AZ HB2140

Amends Arizona Revised Statutes section 15-426 regarding school board member oaths of office and election procedures.

Requires school board members elected or appointed to subscribe to an oath of office on or before January 1 following their election or appointment, beginning in 2013.

Authorizes the county school superintendent to declare a school board office vacant if the elected or appointed member fails to take the oath by January 1.

Provides that if an office is declared vacant, the county school superintendent must either declare elected the person who received the second highest number of votes for that office, or fill the vacancy according to section 15-302 if no other candidates were on the ballot.

Allows members of governing boards to administer the oath of office to each other.
