HB 2240 Summary

• Amends Arizona Revised Statutes Section 11-419 to eliminate the distinction between salary schedules for counties with 500,000+ persons versus those with fewer than 500,000 persons.

• Establishes a single statewide annual salary schedule for county officers (Attorney, Assessor, Recorder, Sheriff, Superintendent of Schools, Supervisor, and Treasurer) applicable to all counties.

• Allows county officers to appoint chief deputies with salaries negotiated between the board of supervisors and the appointing officer, with special provisions for county attorney chief deputies in smaller counties.

• Maintains current salary levels for vacancies, requiring replacement appointees to receive the same salary as the previous officeholder for the balance of the unexpired term.

• Takes effect December 31, 2012.
