Class G licensees (drivers under 18) are prohibited from operating a motor vehicle while using a wireless communication device, with exceptions for emergency situations and reporting criminal behavior.

Violations of the wireless communication device restriction result in extension of the existing restriction period by at least 6 months, with the extension beginning upon department receipt of the finding of responsibility.

Existing restrictions on class G licensees remain unchanged: no driving 12:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. for the first six months (with limited exceptions), and no driving with more than one passenger under 18 for the first six months.

Penalties for violations of the original restrictions (nighttime driving and passenger limits) include civil penalties of $75 for first violation, $100 for second violation, and license suspension for third or subsequent violations.

Class G licensees cannot upgrade to a Class D license until they turn 18 and any extended restrictions or suspensions from violations have expired.
