HCR 2017 Summary

• Proposes constitutional amendment to establish lieutenant governor as elected executive office, with governor and lieutenant governor running as joint ticket in general elections after separately running in primary elections.

• Amends Article V, Section 6 to change gubernatorial succession from secretary of state to lieutenant governor as first successor if governor dies, resigns, or becomes disabled.

• Repeals Article XIX of Arizona Constitution, eliminating the elected office of mine inspector, with the office terminating upon completion of the incumbent's term.

• Makes lieutenant governor position effective beginning with 2015 term of office and prohibits candidates for mine inspector in 2014 election.
