HCR 2018 Summary

• Repeals Article XIX of the Arizona Constitution, which previously established the office of mine inspector.

• Creates a new elected office of Secretary of Agriculture and Natural Resources as an executive department position, with initial election in 2014 for a four-year term beginning January 2015.

• Limits the secretary to two consecutive terms, with a one-term waiting period required before holding the office again.

• Designates the secretary as responsible for state management and administration of agriculture, water management, environmental quality, state lands, mine safety, mineral/oil/gas resources, wildlife, and other natural resources as provided by law.

• Submits the proposition to Arizona voters at the next general election for approval.
