SB 1252 Summary

• Allows pupils in grade twelve to substitute a minimum score on nationally recognized college entrance examinations for passing scores on the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards Test if examination information is accessible at no cost to the state.

• Permits substitution of a score on a board examination prescribed in article 6 of the education code for the state standards test if a student has previously taken the board examination and not achieved the minimum score for a Grand Canyon diploma.

• Maintains existing exemptions for pupils with individualized education programs and section 504 plans from requiring passing competency test scores to graduate, provided appropriate accommodations are made.

• Preserves the standard diploma for students with IEPs or section 504 plans who graduate without achieving passing competency test scores.
