State board of education shall adopt a recommended pupil behavior threat assessment on or before January 1, 2015, developed in consultation with school districts and charter schools.

Each school district governing board and charter school governing body must conduct a public meeting by January 1, 2016 to consider adopting the state board's recommended threat assessment.

The threat assessment tool must provide a structured approach to gather information about pupils to determine appropriate intervention and supervision strategies based on individual circumstances.

School personnel may collect and review information with input from the pupil's parent or guardian to determine the appropriate category of concern, and may also seek input from law enforcement and mental health professionals if necessary.
