HB 2234 Summary

• Amends the definition of "firearm" in Arizona law to specify firearms must be designed to expel projectiles by "an explosive or a burning gas" and were manufactured after January 1, 1899, and clarifies that inoperable firearms and those requiring mechanical repair are not considered firearms.

• Changes references to firearm definitions throughout statutes 13-912, 13-925, 13-3101, 13-3102, 13-3110, 13-3112, and 15-714.01 to use the updated definition from section 13-105 instead of section 13-3101.

• Renumbers prohibited possessor and prohibited weapon provisions in section 13-3101 due to removal of the outdated firearm definition from that section.

• Updates section 15-714.01 regarding the Arizona gun safety program course to reference the new firearm definition location in section 13-105.
