School districts must reimburse universities or community colleges for tuition costs of remedial courses taken by their high school graduates in the first academic year of postsecondary instruction if the student cannot meet the minimum standardized entrance examination score.

Reimbursement amount is capped at the total tuition charged to the student for remedial courses during their first academic year of postsecondary instruction.

School districts must pay reimbursement costs from the maintenance and operation section of their budget.

Remedial courses are defined as university or community college courses designed to correct student deficiencies in basic mathematics, reading, or writing skills necessary for postsecondary study.
