HCR 2023 - Supporting Renewable Energy

• Concurrent resolution expressing legislative support for growth and expansion of Arizona's renewable energy industry as a competitive economic advantage.

• Highlights Arizona's renewable energy achievements including over 600 megawatts of installed solar capacity (third in nation), $637 million spent on solar installations in 2011, and 333 percent growth in photovoltaic energy production between 2010-2011.

• Documents economic benefits including $2 billion contribution to state economy, approximately 16,000 jobs created, $400 million in federal Section 1603 program payments, and survival of construction businesses during recession.

• Notes Arizona receives more sunlight than any other state and identifies renewable energy as providing competitive advantage comparable to oil in Texas, coal in Wyoming, and shale gas in North Dakota.

• Urges Legislature to support renewable energy investment through encouragement of business creation and job development throughout the state while reducing energy costs for ratepayers.
