SB 1471 Summary

• Amends Section 13-3102, Arizona Revised Statutes, to reclassify the offense of possessing a deadly weapon or prohibited weapon as a prohibited possessor from a class 4 felony to a class 3 felony.

• Maintains existing class 3 felony classification for misconduct involving weapons related to supplying firearms for use in felonies, discharging firearms in furtherance of criminal enterprises, and trafficking in weapons for criminal organizations.

• Preserves all existing exemptions and defenses for peace officers, military personnel, licensed individuals, museums, educational institutions, and other authorized entities.

• Retains separate classifications for other weapons offenses, including class 1 misdemeanor for violations under age 21 carrying concealed weapons and class 6 felony for defaced weapons possession.
