AZ HB2351

Establishes a 21-member Private Prison Study Committee with representatives from the legislature, law enforcement, judiciary, corrections agencies, criminal defense, and state universities to research and report on private prisons in Arizona.

Committee is directed to research and report on public safety impacts, prisoner and staff safety, economic efficiency, constitutionality of services including health care, and staff training requirements at private prison facilities.

Committee may request information and data from state agencies and private prison facilities, hold hearings, conduct facility tours, and take testimony to fulfill its responsibilities.

Committee shall submit findings and recommendations to the governor, speaker of the house, president of the senate, and secretary of state by December 31, 2014, including recommendations on continued use of private prisons in the state.

Committee is repealed on September 30, 2015.
