Former Speaker of the Arizona House of Representatives Joseph James Lane III died on March 6, 2014 at age 78.

Joe Lane served in the Arizona Legislature from 1978 to 1988, including as Speaker of the House in the 38th Legislature (1987-1988).

Lane was a rancher, cattleman, and served as Director of the Arizona Department of Agriculture, as well as holding leadership positions in agricultural and civic organizations.

The Legislature expresses sincere regret over Lane's death and extends deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

Resolution was unanimously adopted by both the House and Senate on April 10, 2014.
