School districts and charter schools shall provide public school pupils with CPR training through psychomotor skills in an age-appropriate manner during seventh or eighth grade.

CPR training must be based on the most current national evidence-based emergency cardiovascular care guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Pupils may be excused from CPR instruction upon request of their parent, with written documentation of prior CPR training or current certification, or if a school administrator excuses them due to a disability.

Schools may accept in-kind donations of materials, equipment, or services for CPR instruction and may use emergency medical technicians, paramedics, police officers, American Heart Association or Red Cross representatives, teachers, and other qualified persons to provide the training.

"Psychomotor skills" is defined as sequences of physical actions practiced in a manner that supports cognitive learning.
