SB 1042 Summary

• Modifies the time period for political sign protections from 60 days before the primary election to 45 days before the primary election date.

• Changes the maximum size requirement for political signs in public right-of-way from 16 square feet (residential zones) or 32 square feet (other areas) to a uniform maximum of 16 square feet with no dimension larger than 4 feet.

• Extends the protection period to end 15 days after the general election (or 15 days after the primary election for candidates who do not advance to the general election).

• Requires political signs to display the candidate or campaign committee contact person's name and telephone number or website address to qualify for protections.

• Permits jurisdictions to immediately relocate signs deemed an emergency, with 24-hour notification required; non-emergency violations allow removal if not corrected within 24 hours after notice.
