SB 1285 Summary

• Expands the Arizona Job Training Program to include internship opportunities for students and educators in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields in addition to existing job training for businesses.

• Establishes internship funding with caps of $5,000 per high school and undergraduate student and $8,000 per graduate student or educator per fiscal year.

• Requires a minimum of 50 percent of the prior fiscal year's remaining Arizona Job Training Fund balance to be allocated for internship stipends under the new program.

• Adds a definition of "internship" as educational work-study experience in STEM fields that provides real-world experience building on classroom education.

• Makes technical corrections to statutory language, including standardizing terminology from "per cent" to "percent" throughout the affected statutes, and becomes effective June 30, 2016.
