Criminal justice agencies must conduct a physical inventory of all stored sexual assault collection kits by January 1, 2016 and submit a written report to the Department of Public Safety crime laboratory detailing the number of untested kits, collection dates, and reasons for remaining untested.

The Department of Public Safety crime laboratory must compile all agency reports and submit a statewide report to the Senate and House judiciary committees by March 1, 2016, including the names and contact information of any agencies that failed to submit required reports.

"Untested sexual assault collection kit" is defined as a kit that has not been submitted to the Department of Public Safety crime laboratory or a similar qualified laboratory for either serology or DNA testing.

Criminal justice agencies include any government or private agency with statutory authority over investigation, arrest, detention, prosecution, adjudication, supervision, or release of persons suspected or charged with crimes.
