Establishes that 30 million Americans will suffer from anorexia, bulimia, or binge eating disorder during their lives, with anorexia linked to an 18-fold increase in death risk and the highest mortality rate among psychiatric disorders.

Notes eating disorders are associated with depression, substance abuse, suicide, and major medical complications including cardiac arrhythmia, cognitive impairment, osteoporosis, infertility, kidney failure, and death.

Identifies that eating disorders affect all races, genders, and socioeconomic categories, are increasingly prevalent in youth as young as seven years old, and are treatable when diagnosed and treated early.

Calls for serious treatment and public education regarding eating disorders as a public health crisis, addressing insurance company limitations on reimbursement and inadequate funding and treatment.
