School districts and charter schools must conduct a public meeting by January 1, 2017 to consider adopting a daily physical activity policy for students in kindergarten through grade five.

Parents must be notified of the public meeting and given an opportunity to comment on the proposed policy before the school board votes on adoption.

Daily physical activity requirements may consist of structured or unstructured physical activity inside or outside the classroom, and physical education classes can satisfy these requirements.

Unstructured recess time before or after lunch periods does not count toward daily physical activity requirements.

Schools that do not serve kindergarten or grades one through five are exempt from the requirement to conduct a public meeting on this policy.
