AZ HB2289

Amends Arizona election law to allow county boards of supervisors to cancel elections for precinct committeeman positions when the number of nomination petition filers plus write-in candidates is less than or equal to the number of positions to be filled.

Prohibits election cancellation for precinct committeeman positions if any person files a write-in candidate nomination paper, even if the total number of candidates is less than or equal to the number of positions.

Requires separate ballots for precinct committeeman elections when either more candidates file nomination petitions than positions available or when a write-in candidate files a nomination paper.

Allows appointed precinct committeemen who file nomination petitions to be deemed elected precinct committeemen.

Applies similar election cancellation provisions to other elections under title 15 or 48, with the exception that write-in candidate filings prevent cancellation only for section 16-822 elections.
