AZ HCR2002

Repeals Article V, Section 1 of the Arizona Constitution that made the superintendent of public instruction an elected executive officer.

Removes the superintendent of public instruction from the elected executive department, which currently includes the governor, secretary of state, state treasurer, and attorney general.

Transfers appointment of the superintendent of public instruction to the governor, who shall appoint the superintendent with advice and consent of the senate, serving at the pleasure of the governor.

Makes the superintendent of public instruction a member and secretary of the state board of education, with powers and duties prescribed by law.

Submits the proposed constitutional amendment to voters at the next general election.
