AZ HCR2020

Proposes constitutional amendment to create the office of lieutenant governor as a separately elected executive position, eliminating it from the current line of succession.

Requires gubernatorial nominees to name a lieutenant governor running mate no later than 60 days before the general election, with both appearing on the ballot as joint candidates and receiving a single vote.

Establishes lieutenant governor succession to the governorship in case of the governor's death, resignation, removal, or permanent disability.

Creates a process for gubernatorial appointment of a lieutenant governor replacement (subject to majority legislative approval) if that office becomes vacant.

Takes effect beginning with elections for the term of office starting in 2023.
