AZ HCR2022

Proposes a constitutional amendment to prohibit capital punishment by adding Article II, Section 38 stating "No person shall be sentenced to death in this state."

Removes references to "capital offenses" from Article II, Section 22 regarding bail eligibility for criminal defendants.

Modifies Article II, Section 23 to remove references to death sentences when specifying jury requirements for cases involving imprisonment of thirty years or more.

Repeals Article XXII, Section 22 of the Arizona Constitution, which previously addressed death penalty judgments.

Requires voter approval and gubernatorial proclamation to implement the amendment, to be submitted at the next general election.
