AZ SB1021

Establishes a public safety and violence prevention study committee with 14 members including legislators, law enforcement, media representatives, gun rights and gun violence prevention advocates, and mental health providers.

Committee must research and report on promoting public safety and curtailing violence, hold hearings, conduct fact-finding tours, and take testimony from witnesses in the gun industry, mental health field, and criminal justice system.

Committee may request information and data from state agencies and political subdivisions; state agencies must provide services, equipment, documents, personnel and facilities without cost to the committee.

Committee must submit a report by December 31, 2016 to the governor, speaker of the house, and president of the senate with findings, recommendations on stakeholder common ground, and potential legislation and community-based strategies to curtail violence.

Section is repealed on September 30, 2017.
