SB 1142 Summary

• Department of Child Safety shall contract with one or more private contractors using emergency procurement procedures to administer backlog cases, with contract awards reported to the joint legislative budget committee.

• Private contractors must complete all aspects of backlog cases according to department rules and policies, with the department maintaining direct supervision of all cases.

• Contractors must immediately notify a designated department supervisor and contact law enforcement if they have reasonable belief that grounds for child removal exist under Arizona law, and take actions necessary to ensure child safety.

• Contractors and employees must protect all DCS information consistent with Arizona Revised Statutes section 8-807.

• The department shall report quarterly to the joint legislative budget committee on the status of all backlog cases; this section expires June 30, 2017.
