AZ SB1204

Establishes the Correctional Programs and Recidivism Study Committee consisting of 16 members including legislators, a supreme court justice, corrections officials, academics, and representatives from prisoner advocacy and social services organizations.

Committee shall research and report on the correlation between recidivism rates and spending on inmate educational and vocational programs, the number of such programs available, and their effectiveness in reducing recidivism.

State agencies, political subdivisions, and private prison facilities must provide the committee with requested services, equipment, documents, personnel, and facilities without cost.

Committee must submit findings and recommendations to the governor, senate president, and house speaker by December 1, 2017, with a copy to the secretary of state.

The committee and this section automatically repeal on September 30, 2018.
