SB1247 Summary

• Establishes a community reentry work program allowing eligible inmates within 90 days of release to work in the community under Arizona Department of Corrections authority.

• Sets minimum eligibility requirements including: no convictions for sexual abuse, violent crimes, or crimes against children; no domestic violence sentences; low community risk classification; no felony detainers; and satisfactory progress on individualized corrections plans.

• Requires the department to notify crime victims and allow them 20 days to submit written statements opposing or supporting the inmate's program participation.

• Authorizes the department to collect a percentage of inmate compensation for room and board costs and to deduct funds for restitution, costs, and fines owed by the inmate.

• Makes absence without leave from a community reentry facility a Class 5 felony with consecutive sentencing, and automatically terminates the program on July 1, 2026.
