School districts and charter schools that allow corporal punishment must review their policy at a public meeting within one year of the effective date and vote to retain, revoke, or modify it.

Corporal punishment is defined as inflicting physical pain on a pupil as a means of discipline.

The policy does not prohibit incidental or minor physical contact, reasonable force to maintain order, or force necessary to prevent injury, quell disturbances, or obtain dangerous objects from a student.

The definition excludes physical contact or discomfort from participation in interscholastic sports, physical education, or extracurricular activities.
