Each criminal justice agency must conduct a physical inventory of sexual assault collection kits in its possession by January 1, 2017, and report the number of untested kits, collection dates, and reasons for being untested to the Department of Public Safety crime laboratory.

The Department of Public Safety crime laboratory must compile findings from all agencies and submit a report to the Senate Judiciary Committee chairman and House Judiciary Committee chairman by March 1, 2017, including the number of untested kits by agency and any agencies that failed to submit required reports.

Bill defines key terms including "criminal justice agency," "forensic medical examination," "sexual assault collection kit," "sexually oriented criminal offense," and "untested sexual assault collection kit" (kits not submitted for serology or DNA testing).

Agencies must provide written notification if they have no untested sexual assault collection kits in their possession.
