The Honorable William A. "Tony" West, Jr. passed away on January 14, 2016, at age 78 after a lifetime of public service in Arizona.

Served five terms in the Arizona House of Representatives and three terms in the Arizona Senate over 16 years, holding leadership positions including chairman of Banking and Insurance, and Ways and Means committees.

Served as Arizona State Treasurer for 8 years, championing Proposition 102 in 1998 to expand investment eligibility of the State Permanent Land Trust Fund, which grew the fund from $475 million to over $5.2 billion.

Later served as Arizona Corporation Commissioner and was recognized as a Henry Toll Fellow by the Council of State Governments in 1992 for exemplary state service.

Legislature expresses sincere regret at his passing and extends posthumous recognition to West for his years of selfless service and dedication to bettering Arizona.
