AZ HB2005

Establishes a continuous appropriation from the technology-based language development and literacy intervention fund to the Department of Education for grants to school districts and charter schools for reading-intensive programs.

Grant amounts are at the Department of Education's discretion with the goal of maximizing the number of third-grade pupils who meet or exceed state reading standards.

Department may consider the following factors when determining grant amounts: number of English language learners, percentage of pupils eligible for free and reduced-price lunch, and average number of pupils falling below third-grade reading standards over the previous three years.

Only school districts and charter schools that received K-3 reading support level funding in fiscal year 2016-2017 are eligible to receive grants under this section.
