Schools must provide at least 50 minutes of unstructured recess daily for kindergarten through 5th grade students, with half-day kindergarten students receiving at least 25 minutes.

Unstructured recess cannot be withheld as punishment unless the student's parent or guardian is notified beforehand.

Unstructured recess is defined as time when school staff do not direct student activities except for enforcing reasonable health and safety rules, including lunch recess periods.

Requirements apply to all school districts and charter schools in Arizona.
