HB 2424 Summary

• Attorney General shall submit a beneficiary mitigation plan and request for eligible mitigation action funds from the Volkswagen "Clean Diesel" environmental mitigation trust agreement, with assistance from the Department of Administration, Department of Education, and Department of Environmental Quality.

• All monies received by Arizona from the environmental mitigation trust agreement shall be deposited in the consumer restitution subaccount and used exclusively to purchase or repower class 4-8 school buses as specified in the settlement agreement.

• Attorney General, in consultation with the Department of Education, shall prepare a proposed distribution plan for the mitigation funds to school districts based on their transportation needs and submit it to the joint legislative budget committee for review before distributing funds.

• The act automatically repeals one year after all mitigation monies have been distributed to school districts, with the Attorney General required to notify the Arizona Legislative Council when distribution is complete.
