AZ HCR2001

Proposes amendment to Arizona Constitution Article XI, Section 3 to change the composition of the State Board of Education to include the superintendent of public instruction, each county school superintendent, a state university or college president, four lay members, a community college district president or chancellor, a charter school owner or administrator, a high school district superintendent, and a classroom teacher.

Removes the requirement that appointed board members (all except the superintendent of public instruction) receive gubernatorial appointment with senate consent, replacing it with a provision that the governor shall appoint members in the manner prescribed by law.

Allows all current State Board of Education members to continue serving until their terms expire despite the constitutional amendments made by this measure.

Directs the Legislative Council Staff to prepare conforming legislation to the Arizona Revised Statutes for consideration during the 54th Legislature's first regular session.

Requires the Secretary of State to submit the proposition to voters at the next general election for approval under Article XXI of the Arizona Constitution.
