Dr. Max Dine, M.D., FACP, passed away on June 3, 2016, after a career as an oncologist in California and mental health advocate in Arizona.

Dr. Dine co-founded Behavioral Health Consumers in Action, a nonprofit serving hundreds of people with mental illness, and served on boards of more than fifteen organizations promoting mental health well-being.

He received the Clifford W. Beers Award (1998), Ken Steele Award (2000), Business Journal's Health Care Heroes Award (2002), and Hon Kachina award (2005) for his mental health advocacy and civil rights work.

Dr. Dine spent seven years advocating to ensure Arizona's Civil Rights Act included protection for individuals with mental illness, despite his own struggles with bipolar disorder.

The Arizona House of Representatives expresses sincere regret at Dr. Dine's passing and extends condolences to his wife Sharon, children Lori and Stephen, stepchildren Paul and Lynn, and his extended family.
