SB 1221 Summary

• Amends voter registration requirements to allow registrations dated 29 or more days before an election to be valid if received by the county recorder by 7:00 p.m. on election day, whether sent by mail or other means.

• Expands valid registration methods to include: mail-in forms received within five days after the last registration deadline, in-person registration at county recorder's office up to 14 days before election, and electronic registration through the Department of Transportation up to 14 days before election.

• Requires the Department of Transportation and Secretary of State to transmit electronically generated voter registrations to appropriate county recorders within five days of receipt.

• Allows incomplete or illegible registration forms to be corrected before 7:00 p.m. on election day, with the original receipt date counting as the registration date once missing information is supplied.

• Directs the Legislative Council Staff to prepare conforming legislation for the Arizona Revised Statutes during the 2018 legislative session.
