SB 1275 Summary

• Establishes the Intergenerational Poverty Interventions Grant Program within the State Board of Education to provide grants to school districts and charter schools for educational opportunities outside regular school hours targeting children affected by intergenerational poverty.

• School districts and charter schools must submit proposals including implementation strategies, coordination plans with state agencies (Department of Economic Security, Department of Child Services, Department of Health Services, and juvenile courts), number of pupils to be served, and estimated costs per pupil.

• State Board of Education shall consider the percentage of pupils affected by intergenerational poverty, administrative support capacity, and ability to collaborate with state agencies when awarding grants and determining grant amounts.

• Requires the State Board to submit an annual report by November 30 to the Governor and Legislature detailing grant recipients' progress, academic achievement improvements, and coordination efforts with state agencies.

• Appropriates $1,000,000 from the state general fund for fiscal year 2017-2018 to the grant program fund, which is continuously appropriated and exempt from lapse provisions; program terminates July 1, 2027.
