SB 1451 Summary

• Changes the title of Arizona Revised Statutes Title 36, Chapter 25 from "Health Care Quality Assurance" to "Health Care Quality"

• Establishes accreditation and licensing requirements for providers of custom orthotic and prosthetic devices effective January 1, 2018

• Requires custom orthotic or prosthetic device fabricators/suppliers to be accredited by an independent accreditation organization approved by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, except for devices provided by licensed health care providers under Title 32

• Requires custom devices to be prescribed and provided by qualified practitioners as defined in federal Medicare regulations or by health care providers licensed under specified chapters of Title 32

• Prohibits health care providers from billing patients for coverage denials that are based solely on the device or provider failing to meet the new requirements
