Employers with at least 50 employees in Arizona must grant employees up to 16 hours of unpaid leave per school year to attend school conferences or activities related to their child, with a maximum of 4 hours per day.

Employees must have worked for the employer for at least 6 consecutive months, work at least half-time equivalent hours, and exhaust other accrued leave (vacation, personal, compensatory) before using school conference leave.

Employees must provide written notice at least 7 days in advance for scheduled conferences or 24 hours notice for emergencies, and must coordinate timing with the employer to avoid undue disruption.

Employers may deny the leave if granting it would result in more than 5 percent of the workforce taking school conference leave simultaneously, and schools must make conferences available during both regular school hours and evening hours.

The Department of Education must notify schools and the Industrial Commission of Arizona must notify employers about these requirements; schools can provide documentation of attendance if requested.
