U.S.-Taiwan trade totaled $86.9 billion in 2015, with Arizona exporting $431 million worth of goods to Taiwan, making Taiwan Arizona's tenth largest export market.

Arizona Legislature supports negotiation of a bilateral investment agreement (BIA) between the United States and Taiwan, as the U.S. has already concluded or is negotiating BIAs with nine of its top ten trading partners.

Resolution expresses support for Taiwan's participation in international organizations and applauds Taiwan's democratic development, including the January 2016 election of the country's first female President, Dr. Tsai Ing-wen.

Arizona Secretary of State shall transmit copies of the resolution to the President of the United States, members of Congress from Arizona, the U.S. Secretary of State, and the U.S. Trade Representative.

Resolution notes Arizona has maintained sister-state relations with Taiwan since July 28, 1980, and joins more than 38 other states in supporting a U.S.-Taiwan BIA.
