Eleanor Ann Day passed away on May 7, 2016 at age 77, born August 10, 1938 in El Paso, Texas.

Grew up on the Lazy B Ranch in eastern Arizona, a family-owned cattle ranch established in 1880, and worked as a cowgirl.

Earned bachelor's degree in education from Arizona State University (1970) and master's degree in education from University of Arizona (1972); taught in Phoenix and Tucson school districts.

Served as first woman appointed to State Industrial Commission and on State Liquor Board; elected to Arizona State Senate in 1990 where she served as Majority Whip and Senate Health Committee Chair, advocating for HMO reform and Arizona's Patient Bill of Rights; later served as Pima County Supervisor from 2000-2012.

Legislature expresses regret at her passing and extends sympathies and condolences to her family and friends; resolution unanimously adopted by both House and Senate on February 23, 2017.
